Jill Martin and myself (Lisa Bear) have been selected as Hole Captains for the 2012 US Women's Open being held at Blackwolf Run this July 2-8.
We are still looking for a few more volunteers to help us and we are hoping you might have some interest, and possibly even know a friend or two that might also. (Being a volunteer has some great perks!!!)By volunteering you will be NOT be serving drinks and pushing hotdogs, instead you will be acting as a hole marshall. We have lucked out and have been assigned Hole 9. (That’s 18 on the Meadows course). So, we are right in the heart of all the activities.
What is a Marshal? A Marshal is inside the ropes at the event and is responsible for not only crowd control, but also helps direct players, caddies, locate golf balls, etc... and gets to interact with media personnel that follow groups around the course.
What is the time committment? Each Marshal is asked to volunteer 3-4 shifts of 4 hours each over the course of the week. As a volunteer, you will receive food and beverage vouchers to use during your shift. (we currently have 30 people, the more we can get, the less time commitment required). Jill and I are in charge of scheduling for our hole, so there will be flexibility to meet your availability.
The Marshal Committee for the championship is the largest committee and therefore takes the most coordination and planning. Kohler has set the deadline to register as a Marshal at April 13th. Registration must include payment of the volunteer fee.

The details of what you "get" will be included with the registration; however, I will tell you that those individuals that have already registered (and those that do before the deadline) are being given nice discounts for golf any of the 4 Kohler courses. We expect there will be more discounts next year as well! The 2012 U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN VOLUNTEER WEEKEND GETAWAY is May 4-7 (to pick up credentials) with exclusive rates on golf, hotels, spa treatments and more. (Golf is half price on all the courses for us that weekend)
ADDED INCENTIVE: Kohler has more major tournaments in the pipeline as well, with the PGA Championship coming back in 2015, and the Ryder Cup in 2020. By volunteering for the US WOMENS OPEN, you will be given the opportunity to participate for these events as HOLE MARSHALLS. Now, that’s spectacular! (we have tickets for the RYDER Cup in Medinah, they are expensive and hard to come by, imagine free access the entire week by volunteering!)
