Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County - Lisa Bears favorite lake

Discover Nagawicka Lake in Waukesha County Lake Country

If you were to ask me what my favorite lake is in Waukesha County I would tell you, without giving it a second thought, it’s NAGAWICKA LAKE

Nagawicka Lake lies within the boundaries of the City of Delafield and the Village of Nashotah in Waukesha County. Nagawicka Lake is located close to a major express way (I94)and other major roads (Hwy 16, HWY 83, HWY 67) so it is not difficult to travel to Lake Nagawicka.

Nagawicka means "there is sand”, the reason this name was chosen can still be seen in the excellent swimming areas on Nagawicka Lake today. There are sandbars to the west of St. John's Island and along the western shoreline of the lake that make for great swimming spots. It a common sight all summer long to see boat tie ups at the sandbar locations with splashing kids, floating sun bathers and happy relaxed lake enthusiasts.

Nagawicka Lake is a 917 acre lake located in Waukesha County. It has a maximum depth of 90 feet. Nagawicka Lake is two and one-quarter miles long (North to South) and three quarters mile across (East to West). The total shoreline is five and one quarter miles around. The Bark River flows into the lake on it northwestern shore and continue to add sand to the swimming areas. The beautiful habitat found on the northern portion of Nagawicka Lake host flocks of aquatic fowl for a bird water’s paradise.

The expanses of open water beckon lovers of all water sports to find the elbow room they need to enjoy the summer on Nagawicka Lake.

There are many water sports on Lake Nagawicka including canoeing, water skiing, swimming, boating of various types and sailing. The Nagawicka Yacht Club is a very friendly volunteer sailing club that hosts  many activities including a number of sailing regattas during the summer.

Nagawaukee Park on Hwy 83, extends right up to the shore of Lake Nagawicka. The park has 416 acres and is heavily wooded. It has the only public boat launch for the lake and limits the number of boat trailers that can park there. Nagawaukee Park also offers a nice swimming beach with life guards during the summer for swimming, picnic areas, trails, playing fields and a campground area. City of Delafield and Village of Nashotah residents have resident rights to use a boat launch near the downtown area of Delafield, it is not available to the public at all!

Anglers will find Nagawicka Lake offers great fishing. Common species include bass, northern, bluegill, crappie, perch, and walleye.

Nagawicka Lake Restraunts
The famous Weissgerber Seven Seas Restaurant, one of suburban Milwaukee's most outstanding lakeside restaurants is located on Lake Nagawicka and can be visited by land or water.  It is the lone public establishment on the lake. Fishbone’s Cajun & Creole Restaurant is almost on the lake, but has no public lake access.

The Magic of Wisconsin Lakes – The Ranking of Wisconsin Lakes

The Magic of Wisconsin Lakes – The Ranking of Wisconsin Lakes

There are many reasons people fall in love with Wisconsin lakes. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, good fishing, a tour of the water in a favorite boat, a beautiful backdrop to enjoy scenery and explore nature, a place to reflect or just get away from it all. With more than 15,000 Wisconsin lakes, there are many types and sizes of lakes all with their own unique character and natural assets.

Ranking the Lakes in Wisconsin

The clearest lakes aren’t necessarily the healthiest.  An extremely clear lake may lack the plant life needed to support a robust fishery. Ecologically balanced lakes are more important: those with a healthy mix of native plants, forested shores, minimum runoff coming into them, a good fishery and diverse wildlife.

Dodge County’s Fox Lake is the most challenged lake in the state, because of  its high phosphorus level and poor native plant community. Farms with 400 and 500 dairy cows dot its watershed and industrial waste is being spread in its backyard. The lake underwent a restoration that held for a while, but it has relapsed.

Advice on Picking a Real Estate Agent

Advice on Picking a Real Estate Agent

The ideal agent is not always the one with the most sales under his or her belt, or the most years on the job. The ideal agent is one who listens to you, is easy to get along with, and has the tools and skills to address your unique situation.

Every home buyer is different. Some have credit issues. Some are buying from out of state. Some need help selling their current home in addition to buying a new one. Just as buyers have different needs, real estate agents have different skills and specialties.

Here's how to find the agent who's right for you:

1. Ask friends and family for agent referrals.
Nobody knows you as well as your friends and family do. So they're often in the best position to recommend an agent who is well-suited for your needs. You can also trust a referral from friends or family more than one that comes from a stranger.

2. Talk to multiple agents.
I once saw a statistic that 84% of home buyers choose the first real estate agent they contact. This means one of two things. Either most people are choosing wisely the first time, or they're just rushing into things without shopping around. Probably a little of both.

You don't have to exhaust yourself interviewing agent after agent, but at least talk with two or three to see who you're most comfortable with (which leads to the next point).

3. Consider the vibe factor.
Professional expertise is an important criterion when choosing a real estate agent. But interpersonal skills are equally important. After all, you'll be working with this person anywhere from 2 to 12 months, so it helps to get along with them. We all have unique personalities, and that's the way it should be. But when working with someone professionally, if helps if their personality "meshes" well with your own.

4. Ask how they hunt.
When deciding on a real estate agent, ask how they search for homes. Some agents have their own preferred listings that they favor. But you want what's best for you, not what's best for your agent. You're paying them, right? So make sure the agent is willing to search high and low to find the best home for you. That includes using the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) as well as their own personal network.

5. Read paperwork carefully.
This advice is heavily used for a reason. It's critical that you examine all documents during the home buying process, and that includes your agent agreement. At some point during the relationship, your agent will probably ask you to sign an agent agreement. Basically, it just means that if the agent shows you a particular property, your purchase of the property should be credited to that agent. In most cases it's a simple, just be sure to read it carefully and ask questions.

Time to crown a champion - Miller park Milwaukee

Time to crown a champion

Baseball's best park? It's No. 24 seed Miller Park vs. No. 3 AT&T Park for the title

Updated: June 22, 2012, 4:32 PM ET
By Jim Caple | ESPN.com

Battle of the BallparksESPN.com IllustrationMiller Park knocked out some heavyweights (Camden Yards, PNC Park) to reach the championship.
Thanks to the wonders of social media, it comes down to this:
Your finale for baseball's best ballpark pits a privately funded retro-park that offers gorgeous views of San Francisco Bay, McCovey Cove and Matt Cain, plus the aroma of garlic fries and the taste of microbrews, against a stadium with the feel of an airline terminal that also features races between people in giant sausage costumes.
#BattleoftheBallparks
Guess which will win.
That's right. Based on the way Milwaukee has gotten out the vote -- I think it's even getting votes from people so old they still consider the Fonz cool -- you're going to crown Miller Park as baseball's best stadium tonight. That will be great news in Wisconsin, which really has very passionate and underrated fans, but everyone else might feel like they were just smacked upside the head by Randall Simon.
The decision is yours. Do you want the Milwaukee voting bloc to control the final champion? Or do you want the rest of the country outside Brewers Nation to have a say in what ballpark really is baseball's best? Do you want Milwaukee to call the shots, or do you want to take back this election? If it's the latter, you'd better vote and encourage all of your Facebook friends and Twitter followers to vote as well, because that Milwaukee social media bloc has turned the Battle of the Ballparks into the baseball equivalent of the Arab Spring. Or the Kardashians.
Whatever you do, get your vote in early. We're closing the precincts at 9 p.m. ET. That's 8 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. PT, for you Brewers and Giants fans, respectively.

(3) AT&T Park vs. (24) Miller Park

This really should be a mismatch. AT&T Park is a sublime stadium with spectacular views, great concessions and a distinctive field. Miller Park is a big stadium best known for the tailgate parties held outside its walls and the sausage races held inside. But based on voting in previous rounds, it's going to be hard to stop Bernie Brewer from sliding to victory.

Voter's Guide

1. Location: The best ballparks not only are in the heart of a city, but they also feel as if they are deep in the city's soul, with identifiable views, distinctive features and a relationship with the surroundings.
2. Architecture: All ballparks have diamonds and inviting green pastures, but the best ones have signature architectural elements.
3. History: Even the best facilities filled with every imaginable amenity and design touch are lacking until the memories of past games are thick. As James Earl Jones says in "Field of Dreams,'' fans "will have to brush them from their faces.''
4. Seating: Seats should be comfortable, well-angled to the field, not stuck behind a post, close enough to the field to see a batter scratching himself and with sufficient leg room.
5. Price: Seating should also be affordable, or at least reasonable. Cheaper seats are good; luxury suites are bad.
6. Concessions: Bad stadiums serve plain hot dogs that have been rotating on the grill since Omar Vizquel's rookie season. Good ones serve foods that are local specialties. They also offer more than one type of beer at prices that don't require applying for one of those team credit cards first. The best parks allow you to bring in your food.
7. Scoreboards: Scoreboard watching is one of the joys of baseball, especially when you have a great scoreboard like Fenway, Wrigley or Target Field.
8. Transportation: The park's location should be well-served by public transportation and road infrastructure, with sufficient parking.
9. Roofs: Bonus points for parks with roofs that retract for bad weather. Negative points for roofs that stay in place during good weather.
10. Grass: As Bill Veeck once said, baseball should always smell of freshly mowed grass. Not the backyard of "The Brady Bunch."

This weather making you lose your COOL? Time to start thinking Summer vacation HOMES in Wisconsin

Time to start thinking Summer vacation HOMES in Wisconsin

Vacation Homes

Are vacation homes a good investment?

You can buy a vacation home today for investment purposes as well as enjoyment. And yes, there are tax benefits.

Some people buy a vacation home to use as a permanent retirement home later, which allows them to get ahead on their payments. Another benefit is that the interest and property taxes on a vacation home are tax-deductible.

Some real estate experts predict that vacation homes will appreciate in value due to rising demand from the aging Baby Boom generation. You also can depreciate the property if you live in the house less than 14 days a year.

You also need to consider whether you can afford to carry two mortgages, pay for the extra utilities and maintenance costs, and how this investment fits into your total personal finance picture.
