A household tip for you...Vinegar the unsung hero PART 6

Vinegar is the unsung hero of   "PETS"

Humans aren't the only ones that can enjoy the many uses for white distilled vinegar-even our four-legged friends can benefit.
Give your dog a gleaming coat by spraying or rubbing with a solution of 1 cup white distilled vinegar to 1 quart water. As a bonus, you save the cost of an expensive shine product used on show animals. (Works even on a horse!)

Keep a dog from scratching its ears by wiping them out regularly with a soft cloth dipped in undiluted white distilled vinegar.

Remove skunk odors by wiping down the animal with a 50-50 solution of white distilled vinegar and water, followed by a plain-water rinse. Repeat if necessary.

Discourage a cat from sitting on a certain windowsill or other surface
, or from scratching upholstery, by spraying white distilled vinegar on the item. Test first on an unnoticeable area to be sure there won’t be a discoloration.

Keep a cat out of a garden area by placing paper, a cloth, or sponge there that has been soaked in white distilled vinegar.

Get rid of the deposits and water lines that form in aquariums and fish bowls by wiping them down with white distilled vinegar and following with a good rinse. For stubborn deposits, soak for several hours or overnight.

Keep the birdbath clean by scrubbing it often with undiluted white distilled vinegar. Rinse well.

Keep flies away from horses or other outdoor pets by spraying a mixture of water and white distilled vinegar around the area where the animals are.

Remove cat litter odor by pouring ½ inch of white distilled vinegar in the empty litter box. Let it stand for 20 minutes, swish it around, then rinse with cold water.

Kill fleas by adding a little white distilled vinegar to your dog or cat’s drinking water.

Stop a dog from barking with a spray bottle filled with equal amounts of water and white distilled vinegar. When the dog barks, spray the vinegar water in its direction but not in the face.

Remove pet odors. After cleaning, cover the area with baking soda. Let it stand overnight. The next day vacuum up the baking soda and wash the area with white distilled vinegar. Rinse and let dry.

Cats hate the smell of vinegar. If you have a cat that is marking its territory around your house, spray the area with white distilled vinegar then rinse with a hose.

Stop cats from fighting with each other with a spritz of a white distilled vinegar and water solution.

Prevent cats from eating your plants
by spraying the leaves with a solution of white distilled vinegar and water.

Don't do it!!! I said Don't do it !

April 7, 2011 is

National No Housework Day

Are you always looking for an excuse to put off housework and cleaning for just one more day? Well look no further, today's holiday absolutely insists that you put down the sponge and cleaning supplies and just relax! A 2008 study conducted at the University of Michigan found that the average American woman scrubs her house at least 17 hours a week! After a long day at school or work, housework is the last thing anyone wants to come home to do. Doctors and health experts say that it is essential for people with busy lifestyles to factor in time to relax. Relaxation can lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce headaches, and improve concentration. Celebrate National No Housework Day by ignoring the dirty dishes in the sink and the piles of laundry that need to be done and just relax. You deserve it! (oh -- and incidently, its also National Beer Day... so have a few - - You deserve it!)

DO IT! I said DO IT!!! Get yourself a frosty brew - its National Beer Day today!

Since we here in the states have to make every little holiday or day of importance an occasion to drink, what better excuse to down some delicious beer than to celebrate
National Beer Day on April 7th

In 1933 during the prohibition era, the Cullen-Harrison Act was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on March 23rd. That law was enacted on April 7th allowing the brewing and sale of beer in the United States again as long as it was < 3.2% (4% ABV). It's said that people waited in line overnight on April 6th outside Milwaukee breweries in order to legally buy beer for the first time in over 13 years. (liquor manufacturing and sales were still outlawed).

Though the beer they enjoyed 78 years ago wasn’t anything like the 7%+ ABV craft beers that many of us are enjoying today, as they were only allowed beer with less than 3.2% alcohol by weight (4% ABV), it still probably gave them a nice buzz.

So on April 7th, tell all your friends about this glorious holiday, and raise a glass, bottle, can, or mug to the deliciousness that is beer. Get to your nearest bar (or even your refrigerator), get yourself a frosty brew and thank FDR and your forefathers who fought so hard for the right to get buzzed (legally).

Love to paint --- but afraid of the results? Check this out -- and be sure to tell me which color you like in my living room please!

Many people would love to paint the interior or exterior of their home, but are afraid of picking the wrong color. While paint is relatively inexpensive, the cost of choosing the wrong color and having to repaint can certainly add up. While enlisting the help of a decorator or Home Stager is always helpful, it is still difficult for most people to envision the finished product. Now, thanks to great technology provided by Sherwin Williams, a lot of the guesswork has been taken out of the process.

This great tool is called the Color Visualizer.  It allows you to upload your own photos and try out different paints and trim colors. There is a great video here that will explain how to best use this tool. I have used this successfully for my clients and it is truly amazing. You can use it for both the exterior and interior of a home. I truly urge you to try it out because it is really helpful. Click below:

You may also went to check out another tool from Sherwin Williams, the ColorSnap for iPhone and Blackberry. Use your phone to snap a picture of a color that inspires you. Not only will Sherwin Williams help you match that exact color, this app will help you fine tune it using lightness, saturation, and hue features.

Have fun with these innovative tools and please share your experiences with these or similar products in the comments section below as we'd love to hear from you.
